The initial thinking process and subsequent production of Cameron Tauschke’s artworks orientates itself around layers. Those layers which lay under and on top of each other – the substratum –  this is the foundation and fundamental basis for Tauschke’s ideas and artistic technique.

On the surface of his paintings on canvas as well as on paper he has focused on the dynamic relationship between the human figure to its immediate space. In order to visually organise the thematic dialogue Tauschke has represented the protagonists amongst organic cells, climbers, floating ice blocks, hearts, burning planets, various human organs and assorted painters. The painters in his artworks are in essence himself in other guises and represent an exploration of his own identity.

It is from the surface of the canvas and paper – the new skin – that these forms develop, mutate and attach themselves to each other. The substratum layers reveal forms and images using a building up process with references to current and historical eras as well as layers of the mind, paint and ink. These references are also recollected from fragments of his memories, feelings and visual sensations. All these impressions are all stored in his – Memory Bank – recalled when the art images develop themselves.

A sense of equilibrium and the power of suggestion is important in his images. Through the use of organic and geometric forms, a balance of representational and abstract imagery as well as intense and monochromatic colour contrasts and schemes Tauschke strives to achieve a harmonious symmetry within the picture plane – to give a surface structure and a level of visual intensity to the images.

Furthermore, these artworks also embody a joyful and celebratory approach to colour – which for Tauschke is symbolic of hope. As individual artworks and as a collection, this series reflects a colourful and jubilant approach to some socio and technological challenges we are currently facing.

The new skin reveal layered images using an enhancing process in which the metaphor of shedding of the past, the regeneration of new cells and growing a new skin is captured in a visual image – in which renewal and new phases excite him in preparing and completing new surfaces of his artistic and personal development.
