Turnov has enriched the Czech art scene with countless artistic personalities. The painter, graphic artist, designer Jan Kotík (1916–2002) and the poet and visual artist Ladislav Novák (1925–1999) are undoubtedly among the most famous natives in this respect. Although they only lived in Turnov for a short time in their early childhood, the town in the heart of the Bohemian Paradise with its captivating surrounding landscape of rock towns, castles and chateaux left an indelible mark on them. The intense relationship with their birthplace, their contacts with each other and the aspects in which their creative approaches intersected, aims to outline an exhibition organised in the year in which these internationally renowned avant-garde artists, who were also linked by indirect familial ties, would have celebrated their 101st and 110th birthdays.
