Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové / Hradec Králové
Kruh výtvarných umělkyň
Kruh výtvarných umělkyň was founded in the early 20th century as an effort to empower women in the arts. It brought together women artists of different generations and disciplines, creating a space for their independent exhibition and mutual support. Exhibitions and association activities enabled women's work to enter the public and institutional framework of modern art. The existence of the Circle thus represents an important step in the process of emancipation of women artists in the Czech cultural environment. The work of Minka Podhajská, Julia Winterová-Mezerová, Anna Macková and others will be on display.
The exhibition will take place in the Na zdi space, which is part of the permanent exhibition Czech Art of the 20th Century. The On the Wall area is dedicated to styles, motifs, groups, and artists who have remained outside the mainstream narrative of art during the modern era. These works illustrate the multi-layered nature of the work of the time and remind us of the limits of the art historical "sieve" that each work must pass through before it can become part of the codified history of art.
