The Eight-Year-Old Painter is an intimate return to childhood in a small Polish village at the turn of the 1990s and 2000s. Through the eyes of an eight-year-old girl discovering gender roles within a world of fairy-tale archetypes and cultural codes, the artist’s painting becomes a means of reclaiming space and shaping identity. The exhibition combines canvases, wall paintings, and large-scale works on domestic textiles—such as bedsheets and curtains—materials associated with everyday rituals and privacy.
These paintings expand upon children’s drawings into an immersive environment where memory, imagination, and social expectations intersect. The project continues the artist’s exploration of childhood and reflects on freedom, intimacy, and the early moments when culture begins to inscribe itself into identity.
