In the Czech environment, his exhibitions are still relatively unknown, but Pavel Mrkus has had more success abroad. The Kunstat House of Lords presents a set of new video projections with the theme of artificial outer-space landscapes and their mental reconnaissance. Mrkus graduated from the University of Applied Arts in Prague, and at the turn of the millennium served for a long time as a university lecturer in Toyama, Japan. This experience also shaped his distinctive expressive language, which combines the use of sophisticated digital technology with an attempt to mediate spiritual impulses emanating from the traditions of Western European and Eastern spirituality. Mrkus currently leads (with Daniel Hanzlík) the “Time-Based Media” studio at the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Usti nad Labem.
