In contemporary visual art, hope often finds itself in a dialectical tension between utopian vision and commodified optimism. Onyx Chladilová approaches the concept through the lens of Slavic feminism, deconstructing the effects of patriarchal capitalism on the mental integrity of FLINTA+ communities. Her theoretical point of departure asks whether collective resilience is possible: “Is a healed society another utopia?”

The artist critically examines the systemic structures that shape our consciousness and, through a multidisciplinary approach, explores whether, amid the ruins of the contemporary world, it is possible to articulate a space for authentic existence—one defined not only by trauma, but also by the potential for mutual care.

Onyx Chladilová is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Berlin. She studied Fine Art Photography at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK), which is reflected in her precise approach to the image and her ability to balance urgent social themes with a dreamlike aesthetic. Her practice encompasses video art, performance, and interactive installations, with collaboration serving as a key element of her work. Chladilová actively involves the public and other artists in her practice, blurring the boundaries between artist and viewer and creating a space for collective dialogue about the future of generations trying to find solid ground in a world on the brink of collapse.
