In their first major joint exhibition in Europe, Tanya Lukin Linklater and Duane Linklater present their latest works, in which they reflect on the experiences of the First Nations peoples of North America.

They explore issues related to the lives of Indigenous peoples in the past and present: who owns the legacy of their ancestors, how land and trade became tools of colonization, and what toll the erasure of history takes. In their sculptures, installations, and paintings, bodies and objects intersect with elemental forces, opening up possibilities for reparations, healing, and the building of new worlds.

Exhibition Title Crested/mâcistan refers to water as the source of community, thus responding to the location of the Rudolfinum Gallery on the banks of the Vltava River. In both America and the Czech lands, rivers served as trade routes for transporting goods such as Czech glass beads, which are woven into the narrative of the exhibition. Here, waterways symbolize the transfer of knowledge between nations, but rivers and oceans also served as tools of colonial expansion and the dispossession of indigenous peoples. The exhibition Crested/mâcistan maps these flows and cycles with the intention of outlining new relationships through listening, touch, mutual learning, and care.
