Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology (FFA BUT) is the oldest art faculty at a non-art university in the Czech Republic. It offers four-year Bachelor, two-year Master and four-year PhD studies in 16+2 studios in the field of fine arts and design. Its main mission is creative artistic and scientific research activities and the provision of comprehensive theoretical and practical art education.

As part of a major Czech university, FFA BUT ranks among the top centres of scholarship, independent knowledge and creative activity. It promotes democratic principles of access to education and training for creative work at all levels of university education and enables the acquisition of relevant professional qualifications. It also preserves and disseminates the knowledge acquired and carries out artistic, research, development, innovation and other creative activities. It develops the artistic talents of learners and links artistic education and artistic creation with art research and artistic research as a specific form of knowledge of the world.

The aim of FFA BUT is to educate autonomous artistic personalities who will determine the shape of Czech, European and world art and design in a wide range of applications, from working in professional institutions to free expressions of creativity in the spirit of free artistic creation across artistic types and genres.

FFA BUT also provides other forms of education, supports lifelong learning and the development of a knowledge-based society. It plays an active role in public debate on social and ethical issues, cultivating cultural diversity, shaping a free civil society and preparing young people for life in it. It develops international cooperation, promotes joint projects with similar institutions abroad, mutual recognition of studies and diplomas, exchange of students and academic and technical staff. Academic freedom is a traditional value of the Faculty, which includes institutional autonomy, political independence, freedom of thought, equality of opportunity, self-government and the development of democracy. It co-creates a space for public debate in collaboration with other personalities and partners and contributes significantly to its openness, criticality, professionalism and sophistication. The Faculty is aware of its position and role in society and therefore emphasises the ethical behaviour of its academic community and all its employees.
