“X Times / The Twins Series” by Eduardo Lara Alvarez Tostado

The paintings in the new show are part of a series Lara calls “X krát / Serie Dvojčat” or in english (X Times / The Twins Series), in which he explores the topics of copying and reproduction, represented by what he describes as “images of twins, doubles, alter egos, reflections, duality and opposite poles.” Each of the five works on view features a pair of realistically rendered, nearly identical female subjects, captured in moments of silent stillness that are nevertheless charged with deep – if somewhat ambiguous – emotion. The detailed representation of each scene, combined with the large scale of the canvasses, create a powerful effect on the viewer.
