On the vulnerability and nakedness of the human and architectural body in the context of war, with Ukrainian architectural historian Daria Demchenko.

Using the example of the Intourist-Zakarpattia Hotel in Uzhhorod, she will explore how architecture transforms in the context of war and how it can take on new meanings through artistic interventions.

This past summer, the Czech-Ukrainian Festival of Naked Architectural Forms took place in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. The main venue for all performances was the Brutalist Intourist-Zakarpattia Hotel, built in 1979. The hotel, originally intended primarily for foreign guests and effectively inaccessible to most residents of the Soviet Union, continues to operate as a hotel today, while also providing accommodation for internally displaced persons and students and serving as a base for the “Sorry, No Rooms Available” artist residency.

Another key aspect will be the issue of reappropriating the Soviet architectural heritage and the transformation of this specific hotel into a potential site of artistic solidarity.

The lecture will be held in English.

The event is organized by Brno Architectural Manual and Brno Artist in Residence.
