BEDŘICHOVICE UPON THAMES marks the culmination of the five-year project of Kateřina Šedá, taking place in the South Moravian village of Bedřichovice in 2011–2015. The artist transposed the village to London in 2011. Eighty inhabitants of Bedřichovice had only one task in front of Tate Modern: to behave as if at home, from sweeping the pavement, washing the car, gardening or doing sports... However, London was not the end, but rather a starting point of the project. A new holiday was established in Bedřichovice on 3 September each year: the locals meet and take a joint photo, the village square and the Cultural Centre have gone through a substantial revitalization in the course of the five years. The village centre has been enriched with typical London features, and moreover it has undergone general refurbishment and improvement.
