We live in an era of constant visual and mental overload. In an environment where our attention is constantly commodified. This exhibition project, featuring three distinct artistic perspectives, explores the state of contemporary hyper-reality—not merely as a reflection of it, but as a map of strategies for surviving, adapting to, or stepping away from this oversaturated world.
Commodity, Nostalgia, and Equal Weight
The exhibition’s section, consisting of a series of paintings by Nina Böttcher, transports us into the pasteurized space-time of modern abundance. Böttcher draws on the visual experience of supermarkets and other hypersensory commercial retail spaces—defined by cold fluorescent lights, dense shelves, and the artificial nostalgia of commercial packaging. In her pastel-toned canvases, however, this anxiety-inducing architecture of consumerism dissolves—while simultaneously capturing a state in which meaning does not disappear, but rather flattens and undergoes a de-hierarchization.
out of sight, out of sight
David Mišťúrik responds to this absorption by the system in the video essay copinglink (otherlink), in which he deconstructs the ancient Odyssey and transforms it into the aesthetics of turn-of-the-millennium video games and the algorithmic clutter of social media. Odysseus’s son Telemachus finds himself in the role of both player and protagonist—an archetype of a young man coming of age in the shadow of unattainable male role models and internet subcultures such as sigma males and looksmaxxing. Under the influence of the cold mathematical logic of game theory, any human relationship—including maternal care and intimacy—is reduced to a calculation of profit, dominance, and return on investment.
Medium Naturalist Perceptionist
The cathartic dimension of the exhibition is provided by the collective project Medium Naturalist Perceptionist (Pavel Kytner, Eliška Hanuš, Hana Sommerová, Jakub Orel Tomáš). The artists offer an escape from the trap of simulacra and urban smog through conscious slowing down. For them, nature is not merely an aesthetic backdrop, but an equal philosophical partner. Through textile installations, monumental monochromes, and video essays, visual perceptions are reduced to their essence. The exhibition does not prescribe escape strategies. Rather, it defines the territory between commercial saturation, algorithmic calculation, and natural retreat as a space for reevaluating what remains of our perception under the pressure of hyper-reality.
