Bedřiška is a place whose future is the subject of heated debate in Ostrava. But how can its story be captured in a documentary film? Director Kryštof Zvolánek will present his upcoming documentary about Bedřiška at Fiducia and offer a glimpse into the process of its creation. He will screen clips from the film selected by the audience, and a 50-minute version—with which he graduated from the Department of Documentary Film at FAMU—will also be available.

The evening will not be a traditional film screening, but rather an open documentary workshop focused on the film in progress, where attendees will be able to see the filmmaking process from the inside, uncensored. What is the role and responsibility of documentary filmmakers in today’s age of social media and short videos? Is the significance of documentary film changing? Does film still have the power to contribute to our understanding of places, people, or phenomena that are often reduced to a few simple judgments in public debate?

Journalist and documentary filmmaker Monika Horsáková will join Kryštof Zvolánek for a discussion with the audience.
