Moravská galerie v Brně – Uměleckoprůmyslové muzeum / Brno
The exhibition by Tomáš Roubal and Vladimír Houdek is based on a moment of maximum energy concentration—a state in which form reaches the threshold of transformation and stability gives way to tension, vibration, and movement. Although the two artists work with different media, their work converges in an intense exploration of space, material, and the power accumulated within them.
The exhibition’s title refers to the industrial history of ŠMERAL ART FACTORY, where, among other things, Kaplan turbines—whose principle is based on precisely controlled movement at high speeds—were manufactured for decades. Here, this technical principle is transformed into a metaphor for energy—a force that permeates both Vladimír Houdek’s paintings and Tomáš Roubal’s sculptures.
The exhibition presents a dialogue between painting and sculpture as two media that set the space in motion and invite the viewer to enter the field of tension between order and transformation. High Speed is not about speed. It is about the moment when there is no turning back.
