Workshop Cleaning the Extensive Body of Shoes opens up space for discussions and speculative reflections on the nature of shoes as an architecture of care for the human body. Through theoretical reflections and collaborative practical activities, artist Petra Hrúziková will introduce us to the issues of well-being, public health, and prosthetics. The collective maintenance of dirty shoes and their meanings will allow us to glimpse the many layers of this seemingly simple and mechanical activity.

We will discuss the architecture of footwear as a protective measure, the concept of dirt and cleanliness in our daily lives, and gradually, through cleaning our own shoes, we will arrive at a ritualistic, almost fetishistic satisfaction with the result.

To participate in the workshop, all you need to bring is yourself and the shoes on your feet. Limited capacity; registration HERE.

This workshop is being organized in connection with the text The Materiality of Shoes as a Tool for Uncovering the Chronic Vulnerability of Bodies and Immunity, published in the first issue of the WHO CARES zine.

WHO CARES CLUB SESSIONS is a series of gatherings focused on the maintenance of minds, bodies, and objects. A space for sharing activities, thoughts, experiences, and dreams, but also fatigue and frustration. Together with invited guests, we will create collective situations throughout the year in which maintenance becomes not only work but also rest, (self-)care, entertainment, resistance, and communal living.

Petra Hrúziková draws on theoretical fields in her work, which she also explores in speculative texts in the form of poetry, reflections, and essays. She draws inspiration from feminist discourses, contemporary medicine, historical interpretation, and structuralist philosophy. In addition to writing texts, she creates objects, video performances, sound pieces, and social situations.

The séances are an accompanying activity to the zine WHO CARES, the first issue of which was published in the summer of 2025 under the 4AM imprint. The zine explores maintenance not only as a practical activity but also as a vehicle for values, identities, and a means of building relationships. Through contributions ranging from theoretical reflections to interviews, photo essays, and poetic texts, it explores activities that are often marginalized or automated, yet fundamentally shape our everyday lives.
