The traditional concept of work means the end of work. The difference between work and work is this: somebody gets paid for his/her work and the other one doesn't.

Reward for being a product of one's own happiness. Reward for being satisfied with one's own performance.

Everything is there in what you really enjoy. Everything what you do is art.

Everything what we do is conditioned with group activity. Everybody is naturally inclined to some group. We want to belong somewhere, be useful. But paradoxically, every individual wants to get beyond his/her group. There is always something extra in him/her, some surplus value. An individual is, or wants to be, at a certain moment always one step ahead. Maybe he/she senses some distant danger and therefore naturally builds a defence mechanism. An individual is – a position full of presuppositions. In fact everybody that you look at in the street or anywhere else, everybody is searching for something with his/her look. He/she is looking for his/her consumer, whom he/she could enthral and then, if we exaggerate, destroy. I think we do that only to destroy and then be able to create something else, because all the time we feel the need to do something. What would one do if he/she couldn't do anything? Would he/she really do nothing? And what would that look like?

"Without work for all the world will become an unstable organ. Only when everybody is at work it is possible to hold the society together and control it. Young men without work have become the most dangerous element of the modern history.

Every human tendency is reproductive. Tendency – active, manner, activity meaning whatever, activity in the first place. Act so that what you do happens!

The time is hanging around on one side of the street and you are trying to shake its hand. I remembered that on my way to work today somehow I had passed by the time or I had met someone on my way to work and that's why I had come so late. In any case time plays an important role in the structure of work performance. Make your time. When will you have time? Would you have time? However, on the other side of the same sentence there is another question: Would you have time to help me? Does anything change?

We are moving in the space of complex relationships, where something gets entangled from time to time. Sometimes it seems it gets entangled rather often. Someone says: "Never mind, that's just a permanent never-ending process of human conduct (acting), which alone sometimes leads to uncertainties."

I would like to show that not all ideas must necessarily mean the same, but when I say that not all ideas must necessarily mean the same, then not even this thought of mine corresponds with the idea that was expressed at the beginning of the text. By this I'm saying that when I'm thinking about a certain idea I demand that it also activates somebody else's thoughts. I would like to accentuate diverse meanings of the same thing.

As with most things which have an upward tendency, it is the same with work performance. Not to be dependent, be independent. Cut oneself off but how and who from? „I have been stuck in the same place for a long time, I need a change. Not to be there but be somewhere else. All of this has a twofold meaning.“

The need to benefit and get beyond the horizon of one's own abilities, that is what we should not forget. Our acting has the natural tendency to idealize the real things. So that the real things affect our real lives as little as possible.

So the questions concerning the meaning of the thing itself get to the surface. The meaning is to point out. There'll always be things that'll influence our lives, and they don't need to be connected to our immediate surroundings. Our lives are designed so that we keep asking ourselves questions, so that we keep acquiring control over somebody or something else.

What solution is possible? What are the choices? What's the way to break out?

Snapping my fingers I say: "Wake up, it's time.“

I answer to myself: "Yes, really, it's already seemed like eternity."

Aleš Čermák  (*1983) studied at the Academy of fine Arts in Prague. He connects his art work with film, theatre and literary environment. This cooperation brings an interesting confrontation in the area of artist-spectator communication. The author is interested in the correlation of the two sides, which takes place on the same level and is interrelated. Spectators enter a particular issue with their own views and feelings and help to create their own line of the story. Aleš Čermák will be asking a question of the significance of communication in the contemporary society and of the language itself. The author founded an independent publishing house Ausdruck Books whose recent undertakings include a five part work in progress project called “A citizen and a thing” dealing with the topic of an excluded person in the society.
