Three years ago, photographer Tereza Zelenková bought a cottage in  northern Bohemia and began photographing the landscape of the former Sudetenland as well as the houses that are fading from memory. The series HAUS was created in a single abandoned house standing across from her cottage. Its unchanged interior reveals subtle shifts—light, the decay of materials, traces of animals, and vegetation. The house is not documented here as a historical monument, but as a space where time meets the present and blurs the boundaries between architecture, landscape, and the body. The analog photographs are complemented by objects and found items.

Tereza Zelenková (*1985) is one of the leading figures in contemporary Czech photography with an international reach. In her black-and-white photographic work, she intertwines personal experience with literature, philosophy, history, and the memory of specific places, navigating the boundary between reality and myth. She studied photography at the Royal College of Art in London, and her work has been exhibited at venues including the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Whitechapel Gallery in London, the Foam Museum in Amsterdam, and the Josef Sudek Studio in Prague. Her photographs are included in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Foam Photography Museum, the Musée de l’Élysée in Lausanne, and the Fotomuseum Winterthur. In the series HAUS, long-term observation of a specific place gradually transforms into a more personal reflection on relationships, loss, loneliness, and the possibility of renewal—into an image of the house as a space that, in the words of Gaston Bachelard, “holds compressed time in its thousands of alveoli.”
